Thoughts on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine – Rick Steves’ Travel Blog

Nowadays is a profoundly unhappy day. Russia’s aggressive motion is heartbreaking for the dying, struggling, and economic turmoil it will induce in Ukraine and, indirectly at least, over and above. In this article at Rick Steves’ Europe, we hope that a diplomatic solution can be identified and peace will return to that fragile and very long-struggling aspect of our entire world.

Our mission at RSE is to aid People in america superior know and have an understanding of our neighbors by means of travel. But when we provide tourists to another country, we also deliver their dollars — pounds that would support Putin’s aggression. Thus, as of nowadays, we have canceled all 2022 tours that contain a prevent in Russia.

Of study course, we will continue to keep a shut eye on unfolding events and watch any vacation impacts via the rest of Europe. But it is important to maintain geographic realities in head and remember that a war in Ukraine is as significantly from our European getaway desires as a war in Guatemala would be from Texas or Florida. For 40 yrs now, we have lived, worked, and traveled as a result of lots of durations of tragic warfare in lands far from in which we guide our excursions (and some nearer). And at this time, we see no explanation to adjust the relaxation of our vacation and touring plans.

The tragic fact unfolding in Ukraine only reminds me how vital it is for Us residents to continue to keep on touring and to do so in a way that makes us superior and much more engaged citizens of our earth. I’m flying to Europe up coming thirty day period for a 40-working day vacation via a dozen wonderful towns from London to Athens — and I’m proud that hundreds of my fellow tourists will experience the European excursion of their dreams whilst having prosperous mastering encounters significantly from dwelling on a 2022 Rick Steves tour.

In the meantime, let’s be thankful for our blessings, assist our nation’s leaders as they do their very best to navigate this crisis, and hold the troubled corners of our entire world (Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, and much more) in our feelings and prayers.
